About the PADI Mermaid™ Certification
The PADI Mermaid™ Certification is designed for confident swimmers seeking a deeper, expressive mermaiding experience. The course includes all Basic Mermaid™ skills, with two confined water sessions in Mertailor’s aquarium habitat/exhibit to practice advanced mermaid techniques, underwater performance, choreography, and safety skills. Knowledge development is completed via PADI eLearning.
Course Highlights
Knowledge Development
Study through PADI Mermaid™ eLearning (includes Basic Mermaid content) prior to your visit. Covers mermaid culture, equipment, safety, and underwater performance techniques.
Confined Water Sessions
Two hands-on sessions in our aquarium habitat/exhibit to develop advanced mermaid skills, underwater choreography, and problem management, guided by professional Mertailor mermaids.
Official Certification
Participants receive official PADI Mermaid™ certification upon completion.
Photography
Bring your own camera or device to capture your underwater mermaid performance. Photography is self-captured.
Important: The use of compressed air, regulators, air hoses, or other breath apparatuses are not used in this experience. These devices are for professional use only by our performers and staff and require months of specific certification and training.
Participant Requirements
- Minimum age: 10 years old
- Participants under 18 require a paid adult observer present at all times
- Good physical health and comfort in water required
- All PADI eLearning must be completed before arrival
- Shower before and after in-water activities (facilities provided)
- Outside mermaid tails are prohibited; accessories/tops must be staff-approved
- Minimum 4 hours on-site required to complete certification

This certification expands on foundational concepts and introduces mermaiding as a form of underwater self-expression, while maintaining a strong focus on safety and proper technique—all within Mertailor’s professional performance environment.
