About the PADI Basic Mermaid™ Certification
The PADI Basic Mermaid™ course is designed for beginners who want to learn essential mermaiding principles in a safe and supportive environment. Training takes place in Mertailor’s aquarium habitat/exhibit and includes knowledge development via PADI eLearning and one confined water session to practice mermaid skills, equipment use, and underwater safety.

Study through PADI Basic Mermaid™ eLearning prior to your visit. Covers mermaid culture, equipment, safety, and basic underwater skills.
Confined Water Session
One hands-on session in our aquarium habitat/exhibit to practice essential mermaid diving skills, safety, and problem management, guided by professional Mertailor mermaids.
Official Certification
Participants receive official PADI Basic Mermaid™ certification upon completion of the course.
Photography
Bring your own camera or device to capture your underwater experience. Photography is self-captured.
Important: The use of compressed air, regulators, air hoses, or other breath apparatuses are not used in this experience. These devices are for professional use only by our performers and staff and require months of specific certification and training.

Participant Requirements
- Minimum age: 10 years old
- Participants under 18 require a paid adult observer present at all times
- Good physical health and comfort in water required
- All PADI Basic Mermaid™ eLearning must be completed before arrival
- Shower before and after in-water activities (facilities provided)
- Outside mermaid tails are prohibited; accessories/tops must be staff-approved

The PADI Basic Mermaid™ Certification is an introductory course designed for beginners who want to experience the fundamentals of mermaiding in a safe, supportive, and immersive environment. This course focuses on essential mermaid principles while giving participants a unique opportunity to train in Mertailor’s saltwater aquarium performance tank.
At Mertailor, you won’t just learn mermaid basics—you’ll be guided by professional Mertailor mermaids and introduced to the world of underwater performance in a one-of-a-kind setting.
